The hot spot for everything related to Indian Beauty Pageants

Marc my word or Not

The 20 finalists of the Femina Miss India 2009 pageant have been unveiled but we’re not all that impressed. We think Marc Robinson has lost it, really!! As per our understanding Marc Robinson was brought in to revamp the pageant. Get in the supermodels. The gals with gorgeous bodies. And leave out the “bhenjis”. But I think somewhere down the line his understanding of the “new” criteria got messed up. Based on the selection of a few contestants this year it’s clear that Marc thinks that he has been roped in to do what India’s has been doing for the past few years and NOT revamp the pageant. In an interview Marc in his makapao accent (Sabira Merchant help) stated ” I tell them one thing, Keep and Maintain your Indian values, your Indian cultures”. Cliched statement aye?? I was wondering what Marc meant by Indian Values and Indian Cutures. Pretty Vague? Well I cant help wonder if he’s trying out for Miss India himself. In any case coming back to the subject at hand, the international pageant structure has changed drastically over the past few year. In both the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants the contestants only have an interview round when they reach the Top 5. And quite frankly we’ve missed the Top 5 a zillion times in recent years so all these super duper “I speak well” types end up being “Thank you girls” in the international contest. The girls who’ve won international crowns in the past few years were girls with super gorgeous faces and bodies and most of them barely even spoke English. Physical Fitness is 75% of the judging criteria in an international competition. At first we were excited about the reduction in the number of contestants. Every year the Miss India pageant has 5-10 girls as “filler”. You know they won’t win. They have nothing in their favour but they’re still there to increase the count. So we assumed that this year the reduction in contestants was intentional to exclude the “fillers”. Turns out we’re wrong. Even though Miss India 2009 has only 20 contestants there are still quite a few “fillers” even though they my all be good talkers. Unfortunately quite a few deserving girls may have been left out. However we definitely do see a bunch of girls capable of winning international crowns. And the competition lies between them. We’ll keep you posted on our favourites.
